Talk dirty to your customers…build branding that sticks!

Hey there! Welcome back! Get more focus...

“When (advertising legend-ed) Ogilvy said that advertising is a seduction he is talking about getting laid, not endless flirting. If you aren’t getting laid you aren’t seducing your prospect. If you aren’t getting sales you aren’t building your brand you’re merely buying media.” -Ben Mack

Ha, that’s priceless…

He also said-

“Branding is often discussed as irrelevant to small business marketing. That’s bunk! If you are running a con-game, then branding is irrelevant. However, every form of legitimate business will benefit from branding.”

I saw this post over on Heather vale’s Unwrapped Blog…and I agree wholeheartedly. Branding should start from day one, IMHO. To my logic, you should have a clear vision of what you want to be when you grow up…

What a ‘hot’ topic…lol

Everything you do for your business should be done with your own style and in a certain way that conveys a special feeling that the customer can’t get anywhere else. A feeling that builds to a climax. Once they climax, those feelings will be ingrained, leaving them wanting to come back for more…

I had a trainer once who told me I’d “better pay attention to what she was teaching as if it was a sex novel.” Well, you’d better pay attention to this post like it’s a sex novel…because I think you should look at your customers as a potential lover!

That’s right! I basically just said that building your business should excite you as much as a sex novel (or sex itself)!

And what wouldn’t you do for your lover?

“When driven by this desire, men develop keenness of imagination, courage, will-power, persistence, and creative ability unknown to them at other times.” -Napoleon Hill from his classic book, Think and Grow Rich.

The desire for sex is the most powerful of human desires. But to have a truly heightened sexual desire, one that’s on fire with an insatiable burning…you’ve got to have passion.

No passion, no action.

From where I sit, if you aren’t passionate about what you do, you’ll never build a monumental brand.

To your passions,

Carl

P.S.- Here’s a brand new formula for you: Passion + Action = Satisfaction. Or, in this case: Passion + Action = Brand Satisfaction. How’s that for seductive talk?

P.S.- See, it really is all about the hokey-pokey, after all!

You really had sex on your mind when writing this piece on branding. Climax seems to be a favorite word too!

    Entertaining read nevetheless.

Ogilvy’s comments are still relevant today as they were when he wrote them.

An old book on advertising also is Vance Packard’s 1957 book The Hidden Persuaders. Still relevant today!

Wow. I cannot agree more. I always thought a body should paint their picket a different color than anyone else in the fence, that is if you wan to get noticed. And if you are in business you better want to get noticed.

Passion is certainly the only thing that will make you succeed. Brains won’t and money won’t, but passion will.

Remember, there never was thing before there was thought. Thoughts are things.

If you always do what you always have done, you will continue to get what you have always gotten.

Go build a brand for yourself.

With the exploits of Don Draper on Mad Men, this Ogilvy quote takes on new life. Businesses of any size should take these comments to heart though. Branding isn’t about logos. Branding is about a relationship. Whether it’s a deeply committed relationship, or an “FWB” it’s a relationship no matter what.
