Why people don’t get what they want.
You’ve probably heard someone say they want something. They may say it a few times, but you never hear about it anymore nor see anything to do with it appear in their lives.
Sure, they may re-state this so-called desire or the ‘want’ or ‘need’ when the subject comes up, but nothing ever really seems to happen. It just doesn’t manifest into their lives.
Why? Well, because you have to take serious action to achieve your desires.
Consider this-
“Action may not always bring happiness; but there is no happiness without action.”
– Benjamin Disreali
“Hah!” you may say. “But I took action and it didn’t work out!” “I wanted the happiness, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. “ Well, you are EXACTLY right.
You may have heard the saying- “If it’s meant to be, it’s up to me.”
Or the famous Henry Ford quote-
“Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right.”
The truth is that sometimes, a person may even take action towards this supposed goal, but the result is the same: nothing. Many times, those who take action end up with nothing because they are really just like someone who ‘says’ they want something, but does nothing towards getting it.
Developing ‘Infinite commitment’.
I’m not talking about little things like…”I want a candy bar” or something like that. I’m referring to real, meaningful things, big goals and even those seemingly impossible dreams.
To you I might be talking about the dreams or life scenarios that you have trouble seeing yourself experiencing. Those goals that if you sit down and try to see yourself in them, it takes some work, and even then the vision fades.
You have to really really really want it. You have to develop a burning desire for it.
Yes, you may feel that you are committed, and that may be true, but are you really doing everything you can to succeed? If you aren’t you need to have a sit down with yourself and seriously, with brutal honesty ask yourself if this is really what you want.
The key here is that you can’t half step. To make sure you don’t half-step or falter, you need to be absolutely clear on what you want and WHY you want it. What’s your passion?
Those that do not get what they are wanting do not because ultimately, they lack what I call ‘infinite commitment’ that’s required to achieve the stated intention; so when the going gets rough, they simply quit…even when following their passion.
Infinite commitment is required to achieve big goals and follow your true passions. You have to be flexible. You have to constantly vary your approach. You have to constantly and consistently remind yourself why you want it, or who it is that you want to become, and you have to continue taking action to move you towards that goal.
I want to highlight the following key I mentioned above- Constantly vary your approach. Not changing your plan, tactics, or actions is another reason people give up. If something doesn’t work, you have to “try, try again”, but not using the same thing that didn’t work before. Remember the old saying: “Insanity is repeating the same actions over and over again, but expecting different results.” I know it’s sometimes over-used and maybe worn out to some…but it’s completely true. Here’s another one:
If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten…
Here’s to stopping the insanity.

Well, your last sentence…that is an alternate way of saying what Einstein said. But the meaning is the same and is true.
I would add a comment about religious folk who expect God to give them what they pray for….and wonder why it rarely comes…
Remember Janice Joplin in her song….”Or Lord, please buy me a Mercedes Benz”….
It doesn’t happen without action from the individual desiring the end result. God or the Universe can line you up, but it is up to you to reach the goal post.
